Never thought of the paradox this way but it’s absolutely true. This allows for a wide spectrum of what one likes or not. “Art” is in the eye of the beholder……somewhat like Beauty but not always beautiful.
Glad you had some quality time with your young men! That’s really special. They are doing all kinds of work around here…roof, concrete slab out back, pavers, replace defective hurricane windows etc👏👏👏😩😃
We are definitely in the honesty/illusion business. Honesty in the creation process and message, illusion in that it’s a picture of something real or imagined. Love your artwork!! Keep it up!! 💜🥰
Thanks Laurie, I really enjoyed it. The quote about “what have I not explored with this art” really hit home (paraphrasing).
It reminded me of a post (can’t remember who) said about a singer who learned how to breathe whilst singing and that alone helped a lot! The context is being self taught and not learning any rules, I am in that boat and it struck me that you said you regretting not learning more from your teacher.
As someone who only picked up art again in 2019, self taught, what would you say to me as if I was you 25 years ago? :-)
First there are no rules. Not really. I means there is science or whatever behind mixing water based paints with amounts of water and oil paints with paint thinner. Blah blah blah. But throw everything else out the door.
Second spend your time making things. Making anything. The more you tackle creative problems the more you learn about what’s possible
Third sometimes white space and blank space is needed for room to breathe for escape routes on a painting. You don’t need to cover every single inch of the canvas with media.
If you need to make the same thing twice - I get it. But try to make an image you’ve never made before. Turn the image inside and out rotate it move your body and look at it in different ways.
Dear @Slart I could go on. There’s a good start. (Also just start is a really good one too) :)!! 😊👩🏻🎨💥
Thank you, this was really helpful :-) I appreciate the distinction in the 'science' of colour mixing and so on. I've become a bit stubborn, tending to think that I don't need to learn anything new. However, I'm trying to remain open to everything. The very fact that I believe I don’t need to learn anything suggests a limitation of sorts, doesn't it?
I believe we can continue to learn until our dying day. I once was at the studio of an 80 year old artist and she had a sign above her door that stated, “I have yet to reach my highest potential.” I love that and use it as a mantra. I never see it as negative, just that look at all the room for improvement- it’s never ending.
Like yesterday I learned you can take a wet wipe to artwork and it was a great tool! I’ll post that…

I like this Cathy! Miss you lady! Can’t wait to get back to a Be Free Pathways session again!

Thank you 🙏 when you put it like that, you are always learning anyway! Every time we paint we learn! I love that video you shared.
